During Deal Regatta, The Kent Cultural Baton celebrated the culture and heritage of the seaside town with Time Ball 2012 on 25 July. Recording live film footage across the seafront to re-create a scene of South Beach, taken around 100 years ago during the same event. Inspired by a found postcard, the film of the Time Ball Tower and South Beach front from the pier create a contemporary version of the postcard capturing the movement and excitement of people enjoying the Regatta and seafront activities from past to present. As part of the event, The Kent Cultural Baton was on the seafront distributing commemorative beach towels.
